Jonathan Wheatley backed for Aston Martin F1 group principal function: “He is a fighter”

Former System 1 driver David Coulthard has thrown his assist behind Jonathan Wheatley to take the group principal function at Aston Martin, following his exit from the Audi F1 mission.

Audi confirmed on 20 March that Wheatley had left his function of group principal with speedy impact because of private causes, after solely becoming a member of the outfit in 2025.

Following the Briton’s exit, he has been linked to a transfer to Aston Martin. Motorsport understands that Adrian Newey will step again from his group principal duties to give attention to his tasks as managing technical accomplice.

Whereas the rumours have been mentioned on the Up To Velocity podcast with Will Buxton, Jolie Sharpe, Naomi Schiff and Coulthard, the previous Pink Bull driver provided his assist for Wheatley, who he labored with on the Milton Keynes outfit, and make clear his “fighter” persona.
