F1 TV analyst Alex Brundle has labelled the drive-through penalty handed to Arvid Lindblad on the Dutch Grand Prix as “harsh”, arguing that drivers shouldn’t be punished for secondary overtakes whereas taking evasive motion.

The race at Zandvoort was closely disrupted on the opening lap when dwelling hero Max Verstappen crashed at Flip 14. As Lindblad, who was one of many drivers behind the four-time champion, took evasive motion, he handed Pierre Gasly’s Alpine going into Flip 1.

The stewards deemed this a yellow flag infringement, issuing the Racing Bulls rookie a pricey drive-through penalty.

Talking on F1 TV’s post-race present, Brundle sympathised with Lindblad’s place.

“I feel it’s harsh. The accepted method to go about it as a driver is should you’re successfully avoiding the crash, you keep away from the crash and also you do all the things that you could to just remember to do not change into a part of the accident,” Brundle defined.

“It is troublesome to then add in further issues that the drivers have to concentrate on throughout an incident to guarantee that they do not then move a automotive secondarily to that.

“It relies upon how far you might be away from the incident. But when you have not truly handed a yellow flag and should you’re truly attempting to get across the incident, I feel it is harsh then to penalise you for passing one other driver whilst you’re truly taking evasive motion.”

Then I used to be simply holding my line and attempting to simply go straight to not have any incident or something.

“Then I handed Pierre into Flip 1. However I did not see any flags or something. So it was a little bit of a disgrace. I additionally suppose the penalty is a bit harsh.
